Plan a Visit

Services Available

Parking outside the Visitor Center is free. No cars are permitted on the road to the Fortress except by special permit. Buses between the Visitor Center and the Fortress leave every 15 minutes.

Public washrooms are available in the Visitor Center and in certain buildings in the Fortress. For locations, check your map or ask a guide.

The Fortress has a period restaurant on site plus an authentic 18th century bakery and a gift boutique. Modern sandwiches, snacks and drinks can be purchased in the Coffee Shop.

For visitors with disabilities, assistance is available at the Visitor Center. For more infomation, please call (902) 733-3552.

Between 1722 and 1745, there were as many as 150 men or about 20% of the entire garrison made up of German and Swiss Protestants from the Swiss-based Karrer Regiment. There were enough Spaniards in the garrison to form a sub-culture.
